James started out as an equity analyst in investment banking, specialising in the technology sector. His role also included advising on corporate finance, helping companies with buy-outs and mergers, raising capital in stock markets and interacting with their shareholders. His immersion into the world of software led him to take a master's degree in Computer Science at Bath University. “It is a discipline which involves learning how to solve problems - it’s this coupled with exposure to a wider range of technology which makes it much easier and quicker to provide cost-effective solutions for clients.” He then became a researcher at the university, specialising in what he describes as ‘big science’, in particular for major technology companies that needed a better understanding of how people interact with the technologies they use.
